The Howell State Street Reconstuction Project

Thank you for your patience while visiting our award-winning down-town and local businesses during construction.

The construction you see is part of a $2.2 million dollar project made possible by 90% in funding support through the State of Michigan Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) match program. That’s right 90% of this cost is not from City Taxes!!!!

We are proud to have received this grant funding through Howell Main Street Inc. after winning the 2018 Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA), as well as the hard work of our city leaders and city staff!

This project is creating a barrier-free street which allows residents and visitors of all abilities to enjoy the space, while our alleys are also en-hanced with improvements to the storm water run-off, drainage, and more.

Additionally, this project design allows us to relocate most of the
utilities (DTE, Comcast, and AT&T) underground, rather than have them affixed to our historical buildings, so our alleys are safer, the buildings are preserved, and overall the design offers a more beautiful and usable space for all.

But that’s not all! This project also replaced an old water main that contained both lead joints and service lines, with a more reliable water main capable of providing adequate water flow for fire protection.

We look forward to the completion of this project and offering you a more beautiful space in September 2019. We appreciate our contractor, TLS Construction, along with other utility partners, working diligently to meet this fall schedule. Stay tuned for a ribbon cutting celebration planned when this project is complete!
