Frequently Asked Questions

You look young. Are you really the Mayor?

Yes. Yes I am.

What does the Mayor do exactly?

The Mayor is the head of the City Council and has all the rights and duties of the other council members: setting the policy for the city government, voting on issues that come up before City Council, and chairing meetings of the council and other boards of which the Mayor is a member. The Mayor, in complete conjunction with the City Council and with input from residents, sets the direction for the city. The policy dictated by Mayor and Council is implemented and administered on a day to day basis by the City Manager, who serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and the Council.

Does Howell have a "full-time" Mayor?

No. I keep some office hours, but this is not a full-time job. The City Manager runs the day to day operations of the city.

Do you do weddings?

Unfortunately, no. Although I do have the legal authority to perform weddings, it is my personal preference not to offer this service.

Can the Mayor get me (or my boyfriend, spouse, etc.) out of jail?

Uh, no.

Will the Mayor write my child a letter of recommendation?

If you would like a letter of recommendation for your child to help them get admitted to college, ROTC, or any other program that requires references, I would be happy to provide this service. Please contact me for more details.

Can you help my son with his Eagle Scout project?

Absolutely. We aid teenagers with Eagle Scout projects frequently. Contact me with info and I'll do what I can!

Will you come drop in at my event?

If you are a resident of the City of Howell and would like me to pop in at your event (graduation party, housewarming, opening of a new store, etc) send me an email invitation with at least three weeks' notice and I will do my best to drop by.

Do you do public speaking engagements?

As a matter of fact, I LOVE doing public speaking engagements. As a teacher and former youth minister, I have spent hundreds of hours in front of crowds and welcome any opportunity to speak. If you would like me to speak at your fundraiser, charity event or anything else, please let me know.

If the Mayor gets pulled over, will he still get a ticket?

If I am foolish enough to be breaking the law, then yes, of course.

I am a teacher/professor. Will you come do a guest visit/presentation in my class?

Absolutely. Contact me with the details and I'll see what I can do.

I heard you do hospital visits. Is this true?

If you know of a member of our community who is suffering or is in the hospital and would like a visit from me, I would be more than happy to do so, subject to scheduling. As someone who has had major surgeries done before, I can appreciate how much it means to be visited when in the hospital. Let me know how I can help and I will do my best.
