The Teen Center was started in January of 2002. From the beginning of the 2002 year to the present, the Howell Area Teen Center has been located in the Barnard Community Center at 415 N. Barnard Street.

The goal of the Teen Center is to provide a safe and supervised environment for area middle school kids during the hours after school that are usually left unsupervised.

The Teen Center provides both structured and unstructured recreation for the area youth. Teen trips, weekly events, games, and other fun activities are what the Center offers throughout the year.

The Center also offers a quiet place to work on school projects and homework. The most popular element of the Center is the Teen-Lounge area that includes video games, music, television, billiards, darts and a place to hang out with friends and peers.

Last year Howell Rec Center arranged transportation with L.E.T.S. to bus the kids from the middle schools to the Teen Center for $2 a student.

Howell Area Youth Assets Coalition

www.hayac.org

The Howell Area Youth Assets Coalition is a community group that includes both adults and youth from the Howell community.

The purpose of the group is to build a better community by promoting asset development and creating new asset building opportunities and asset based activities in the Howell area.

The Coalition meets monthly all year and the Youth Council meets monthly September thru May. Growing membership and a lack of storage space has forced the Howell Area Youth Assets Coalition to find a new place to meet in Howell.

The HAYAC group is currently working with the Howell Area Parks and Recreation Department to share space at the Barnard Community Center. Since this building is the same home of the Howell Area Teen Center it is an ideal location for the Coalition to meet.
